Slavia Prague’s New Full-Back Andres Dumitrescu: A Promising Young Talent Ready for the Challenge

A montage of his actions on Youtube begins with him snorting the ball from the line into the middle of the field, passing it to a teammate, and then running to the center and scoring a goal with a header. Assists, interesting crosses or defensive interventions are also selected. The recent Romanian under-21 international has potential that they will want to develop at Eden.

He is ready for a challenge, he is not afraid of challenging games. “I like this way of playing, I run a lot. We’ll see how it goes, but I think it will fit me. I am an aggressive and fast player. I would also say that I am agile,” the native of Slatina introduced himself in an interview for the club’s website. “I hope you can see for yourself,” he tried to entice the fans.

After the departure of David Jurásek to Benfica Lisbon, Slavia was looking for a left back. In general, this type of player is in short supply, Lukáš Provod was retrained for this position in Eden. Due to the sale of Jurásk, the Stavangers are more and more using a system with three stoppers and wingbacks on the sides of the pitch. In addition to Provod, Conrad Wallem is available on the left. Alternatives are for example Ivan Schranz, Jan Bořil, Matěj Jurásek or Oscar, but coach Jindřich Trpišovský uses all these players primarily elsewhere.

“We were looking for an alternative on the left side of the defense where we want to increase the competition. We feel that we have a shortage of players on the left side of the pitch. We see Andres as an interesting promise, an investment for the future. We have been following him for a long time. He is fast, dynamic, with a great center. We believe that our coaches will be able to improve him even more and take advantage of his great potential,” hoped Slavia sports director Jiří Bílek.

Dumitrescu was active in youth teams in Italy’s Padua and Switzerland’s Lugano, among others. He worked in Sepsi for the last three and a half seasons and played 88 competitive matches there. He scored two goals and had six assists in them. Last season, he celebrated a triumph in the domestic cup, Sepsi also won the Romanian Super Cup twice. He appeared nine times in European cups, the Romanian team was eliminated in the final preliminary round last week against Norwegian club Bodö/Glimt, when the return game was decided in extra time.

The full-back Andres Dumitrescu is the new reinforcement of football club Slavia.

Trpišovský spoke after the match with Karvina, for example, about the fact that some players from abroad do not want to come to the Czech Republic, Dumitrescu is a completely different case. “It happened really fast. When I heard about Slavia’s interest, I didn’t think about it at all, I flew right away. I know what kind of club it is, what the atmosphere is like, what kind of fans there are, how great Prague is as a city. It fulfills everything I would wish for,” said the former youth representative of his country enthusiastically.

He knows well that his compatriot Nicolae Stanciu worked before him in Slavia. “I don’t know Nic, he’s a great player, almost unbelievable. He plays for the national team, he is the captain. A brilliant footballer. I know he played here, that he’s something of a legend. I’ve only heard the best about him. I’ve seen some matches and because of that I know how people here have taken him. And that the fans love him,” Dumitrescu pointed out.

Now it will be up to him to make the fans like him too. He will undoubtedly get a chance to impress.
