The speculation has been confirmed. Thomas Nørgaard is leaving Sparta after he has decided to accept an interesting offer from Danish second division manager Sønderjyske. Sparta announced it on its website.
We informed you on Wednesday of the possible departure of assistant coach Thomas Nørgaard from Sparta Prague. However, Brian Priske’s assistant coach did not resign due to dissatisfaction with his job.
He has received an attractive offer from Denmark, in particular from second league team Sønderjyske, with whom Sparta have experience in the past.
Nørgaard will become the head coach of the club, which has ambitions of returning to the elite. However, Henrik Hansen was sacked after poor results and, after several coaches refused, it was Sparta’s assistant’s turn.
“There has been a change in Sparta’s implementation team after the end of the autumn part. Danish assistant coach Thomas Nørgaard has decided to accept the offer of head coach in Denmark, where he will be closer to his family. We will inform the fans on his successor”. Sparta announced on its website.
“I was really happy at the club. Prague is a beautiful city and in many ways I felt welcome here. At the same time, I’m happy to be able to be part of Sparta. Not only being within the club, but also with all the pressure and expectations around us.
It’s a great honor for me to be a part of something so big. But at the same time, I had the opportunity to be closer to my family and the opportunity to be the coach of Denmark. It’s not because I’m not happy where I am, or because I don’t think this project will be successful, it’s quite the opposite.
It’s more about the opportunity to be closer to family and the opportunity that comes along from time to time. Timing is never good in football, so you have to make tough decisions from time to time. Now I can be at home in Denmark, closer to my family and part of a project that looks really cool.
But at the same time I am leaving the club, which got under my skin in six months. I am convinced that Sparta will be successful in the coming months.” Nørgaard himself told the club’s website.
Sparta agreed to his departure due to the fact that manager Priske had already found a replacement. It has not yet been officially confirmed, according to the newspaper Tip ball but it would have to be Lars Friis, with whom Priske has already worked in Midtjylland.
