“There is such a people” reacted with indignation to Daniel Laurer’s comment from “We continue the change” addressed to the Bulgarian from Ohrid Hristiyan Pendikov.
Trifonov himself admits that he was burned by the speech of the former deputy prime minister and states that “Macedonia is a big pain” for him and for a very large part of Bulgarians. He handed over his profile to his friend and former ITN MP Ivaylo Valchev to comment on the PP MP’s words.
“Honestly, I was also burned, but I give Mr. Ivaylo Valchev his word on the matter,” wrote Trifonov.
And Valchev is categorical that it is not the passport that makes a person Bulgarian, but self-awareness.
“Mr. Laurer’s claim that Hristiyan Pendikov is not Bulgarian because he does not have a Bulgarian passport, but only a Bulgarian self-awareness, is cynical to say the least. A passport can make you a “Bulgarian” in front of the officials. Self-awareness makes you a Bulgarian in front of Bulgaria.”Valchev wrote.
“Obviously, Mr. Laurer does not have the slightest idea what it is to define yourself as a Bulgarian in the Republic of North Macedonia. Obviously, a bunch of athletes with Bulgarian passports, people who do not speak a word of Bulgarian and have no emotion towards Bulgaria, are more worthy of being protected by the state, than a young man who dared to call himself Bulgarian in a country where this carries nothing but a risk to life and security”. Slavi Trifonov’s screenwriter was also angry.
And he turns directly to the MP from PP.
“Mr. Laurer, many of the historical figures whose portraits hang on the walls in schools and in the offices of statesmen never possessed a Bulgarian passport. But they were Bulgarians, they called themselves Bulgarians and they lived and died for it, yes there is Bulgaria.
No passport.
By conscience and conviction”wrote the former MP from ITN.
