Irina Bokova, who currently heads UNESCO, was appointed on February 11, 2016 to the post of UN Secretary-General by the Permanent Mission of Bulgaria to the UN.
Kristalina Georgieva, who was in New York during the meeting of the world leaders of the UN General Assembly, rejected reports that other Eastern European countries may raise her candidacy.
