“Hey you! Finally, enough of this sleeping! You didn’t make it across the border, did you?” – how many times have you heard these words? Several? Dozen? There is no doubt that the opening scene of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has become as iconic as the game itself. Bethesda knows this very well, as evidenced by the fact that it has released two re-editions of this first-person RPG – Special Edition and Anniversary Edition.
Both are currently available for purchase on Steam with an 80 percent discount. The first one seems to be more worth recommending, because it is about half the price, and what’s more she lived to see it the largest price reduction ever on Valve’s platform. Skyrim: Special Edition includes three story expansions – Dragonborn, Dawnguard and Hearthfire – and a host of graphical improvements that make the game look much nicer than the original 2011 version. Skyrim: Anniversary Edition additionally offers over 500 fan modifications from the so-called Creation Club, introducing, among others, new quests, dungeons, weapons and spells.
The fact that Bethesda made you pay for mods, which in many cases could be downloaded for free, quite disgusted the community. As a result, Skyrim: Special Edition has on Steam 94% positive reviews from over 268,000, however improvement for the Anniversary Edition – only 57% of favorable opinions out of just over 5,000. The majority of players postulate that it is an indisputable “money grab”.
Therefore, the Special Edition seems to be a better choice than the Anniversary Edition. Especially since there is no shortage of content in this edition of Skyrim. Admittedly, completing the game occupies on average 26 hours, but “maxing it out” – completing all side tasks, etc. – it takes well over 200 laps of the clock. In fact, on Steam you can easily find players who have spent several times more time on TES V.
However, if you would like to purchase Skyrim: Anniversary Edition, you will be able to purchase it by October 20 for PLN 68.97. If you already have the special edition of the game, all you need is the upgrade – available on Steam as a DLC for it – which, as part of the same promotion, costs PLN 39.50. It is worth adding that Skyrim: Special Edition is available on PC/Xbox Games Pass and PS Plus Extra and Premium services.
