Skyrim grandma ends her YouTube career at 88

Shirley Curry started her YouTube-Kanal 2015 at age 79. The channel description reads: “I’m an 88 year old grandmother who loves to play and record games! I live in OHIO, USA. I love playing Skyrim. I’m a widow. I have 4 sons, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. My birthday is April 2nd.”

Due to her charming and relaxed manner, Curry was able to make a name for herself with her Let’s Plays – mostly The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – quickly build a large community. The “Skyrim Grandma” has now published more than 2,300 videos and has long since broken the 1 million mark on YouTube. On September 23, however, the American said goodbye to being a gaming YouTuber. In her farewell video, she honestly summed up the reasons:

“I do it just for fun, but I don’t enjoy it anymore. I’m tired and bored to death.”

Curry is ending her YouTube career of her own free will. Instead, she wants to devote herself to other hobbies, including quilting, which she has been planning for a long time. This is a handicraft technique in which several layers of fabric are sewn together to make blankets. Fortunately, the Skyrim grandma will not disappear from the scene completely. According to her own statements, she is planning to vlog about books and other personal projects.

As a child of the 90s, my Gameboy was my constant companion. After school, I turned on the PlayStation. When I finally got my first PC, I was completely hooked. My passion for gaming has never waned since then. For me, writing for Notebookcheck means reporting on topics that are really close to my heart – in addition to gaming, I also like to write about e-mobility, photovoltaics or innovative gadgets. When I’m not sitting at the computer, I’m probably doing water rescue on the Baltic coast or trying to counteract the dark side of my geek life – namely sitting for long periods – in the local swimming pool.
