(ANSA) – ROME, SEPTEMBER 17 – Sky News Arabia cites sources as saying that the large-scale pager attack in Lebanon was possible because the Mossad spy agency obtained Hezbollah’s communication devices before they were handed over to the terror group. According to the source, the Israeli spy agency placed a quantity of PETN, a highly explosive material, on the batteries of the devices and detonated them by increasing the temperature of the batteries from a distance. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that some Hezbollah members felt their pagers overheating and disposed of them before the series of explosions. Al Jazeera cites a Lebanese security source as saying that the weight of the explosives placed in each device was less than 20 grams and that the detonated pagers had been imported five months ago. An investigation is underway into how the explosive charge was activated, the source added. (ANSA).
