Sky are shaking – is this the end of all Bundesliga hopes?

This news would be an unprecedented blow to the neck. Sky follows what is happening at the moment at its rival DAZN with the eyes of Argus. The two sports rights holders are in a heated duel over who will have the license to show the biggest Bundesliga games in the future.

Even if the current offer turned out to be a farce (find out more about it here), Sky’s goals and the competition remain unchanged. A new piece of positive news about DAZN is now shaking the pay TV channel in its wake. The chances of getting the most profitable packages would suddenly decrease.

Sky: Mega contract for competition?

What is it about? To get any broadcasting rights in today’s sports world, it is about one thing: money. In football in particular, prices have increased in recent years. According to its own wishes, the DFL wants to generate around one billion euros in revenue for the next Bundesliga rights period – every year.

And it could DAZN soon actively helping, even though the DFL had recently dropped the streaming service. The reason: a billion dollar rumor! As the group “Reuters” recently reported, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, is interested in joining Sky’s competitor.

He wants to spend ten percent of the company billion euros. ONE. BILLION. An amount so boring that fans just want to get out. But for bin Salman this is pocket money at most.

Poker rights would be decided

It is an alarming sign for the competing TV station from Unterföhring. Even without Sheikh’s entry, DAZN was able to offer more for package B. How much is only possible if there is also this big financial injection? And above all: Could the online service then maybe even grab ALL the rights?

The rights poker could then be as good as decided and entered into a new era. Despite all the loss of rights, the rule has been there until now: On Saturdays, Bundesliga fans can listen to Sky and spend the entire afternoon and evening there.

However, it remains to be seen whether a) the deal will come to fruition and b) how much of the revenue would flow into the German part of DAZN.
