Sky above Westland bright pink: why?

The colored sky was caused by lamps from the greenhouses in that region. Certain colors of LED lamps are said to make plants grow better.

“These orange lamps are often still used in greenhouses, but you let go of a lot of heat. LED lighting can be adjusted precisely to what plants need”, Jan van Berkel of Koppert Cress tells Monster.

The company also uses these types of lamps itself. “A plant needs red light to grow, and blue light to keep it compact. Together that turns pink. You can coordinate which light conditions work best per plant and per species.”

Low-hanging clouds

Due to the weather conditions, the light from the lamps was easier to see in the sky than usual. “The light from the greenhouses is reflected in the clouds. You could see it so well yesterday through the low-hanging clouds. Then you get things like this in the air,” explains weatherman Marc de Jong.

You may be able to see it again tonight. “There is also low-hanging clouds.”
