Skull and Bones has been delayed countless times since its announcement over a decade ago, but the game has finally arrived with a free eight-hour trial.
And although Ubisoft was late in sending codes for reviews, nevertheless, despite this delay, various reviews have already begun to appear in popular publications. Most were cautiously optimistic about the game, but as a pirate fantasy adventure it appears to have been a complete disappointment.
As expected, the game is now being evaluated by specialized media and has received enough reviews to score only 65 points on Metacritic. According to critics who managed to play the game, Skull and Bones is not very successful, since there is nothing interesting in it except for basic naval battles.

Spoiler alert
Try Hard Guides: “Skull and Bones promises adventure on the high seas. Although the game focuses too much on the mechanics of naval battles, it is still interesting and does not quickly become boring. Despite some repetition, Skull and Bones should provide many hours of entertainment and plenty of possibilities for customization for those who want to sail its waters.”
GGRecon: “There are brief moments in Skull and Bones where I see some vestiges of passion. Everything else is routine. Predictable given the delays and issues with the game’s development, but a disappointment nonetheless.”
PCGamesN: “Skull and Bones promises the pirate adventure of our dreams, but falls short with a thin plot, lack of personality, and gameplay that vacillates between frustrating and boring.”
PC Invasion: “Rather than being a dark pirate game, Skull and Bones is a gun-wielding marauder on the high seas that stumbles over its own feet every now and then. Hopefully in the coming years it will evolve into a game that’s not just for naval battles “.
They claim that despite repeated postponements, the project was never fully polished. The positive aspects include fun ship customization and a beautiful open world, but most of the game is not fun. Aside from the technical issues, the quests are simple and boring. According to reviewers, the game does not stand out against the background of many games with a live service, even taking into account the fact that there are not so many AAA pirate-themed adventures.
While Ubisoft believes the game has all the right ingredients for a long-running live service, critics say the multiplayer capabilities aren’t fully realized. In their opinion, interaction between players is quite limited.
This happens during certain episodes, and during chases, and in a number of similar cases. And while Ubisoft remains confident that this is an AAAA release, Skull and Bones appears to be facing significant challenges.
