Skujiņš and Neilands will represent Latvia in the cycling competitions of the Tokyo Olympic Games

On Monday, the Council of the Latvian Cycling Federation (LRF) approved Latvian athletes who will represent our country in the Tokyo Olympic Highway Cycling Competition in a group and individual race. Toms Skujiņš and Krists Neilands will start in the group trip, while in the individual trip, where Latvia received the opportunity to participate only at the end of last week, the honor of our country will be defended by Carnik from Skujiņš, LRF Secretary General Toms Marks informed.

The men’s highway cycling competition in Tokyo will take place on July 24 (group race) and July 28 (individual race).

In the Tokyo Olympic Highway Cycling Group racing competition, Latvia will be represented on Sunday for Baltic and Latvian champion Toms Skujiņš – Carnikavietis, who has become the highest place among Latvian riders in the UCI world ranking. In turn, our second representative in the group race will be Krists Neilands, who is the choice of the team’s head coach Tom Flaks.

In an individual trip, Latvia will be represented by Toms Skujiņš, who last Wednesday became Latvian champion also in this discipline.

It has been clear for a long time that our drivers have won two quotas for Latvia in the group trip. Meanwhile, Latvia had not initially qualified for an individual trip. After several countries refused to use the quota due to them in the individual race, LRF was given the opportunity to apply for one of the two athletes also for the individual race. LRF will also use the opportunity.
