Skride: It could be encouraged to reduce the number of allowed people indoors to 500 in Latvia

In order to limit the spread of Covid-19, it could be encouraged to reduce the number of allowed people indoors and to 1,000 outdoors, said the Chairman of the Saeima Social and Labor Affairs Committee Andris Skride (AP).

It is currently stipulated that a maximum of 1000 indoor and 3000 outdoor people may be present at the venue of events or economic services at the same time. The head of the commission admitted that changes in the reduction of the permitted number of people would be initiated by the Ministry of Health (MoE), and the politician indicated that he would support such amendments to the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Thus, Skride answered, inter alia, the question whether it was necessary to strengthen any restrictions to reduce the spread of Covid-19. The politician emphasized that the main thing is to strictly follow the existing regulations, he concluded this after talks with infectologists, including the Chief Infectious Disease of the Ministry of Health Ugu Dumpi and the representative of the World Health Organization in Latvia.

The politician stressed that there are people who do not follow the existing rules, but sick go to work. “If we have a cold, we don’t go to work,” Skride emphasized. The head of the commission also emphasized that the key to success is the use of masks and observing a distance of two meters.

He pointed out that masks should be worn indoors, especially in small rooms where people stay, but this condition could not be made mandatory at this time. If the situation worsens, then the use of masks should be made more mandatory as a mandatory requirement, the politician said.

Asked whether employees of companies that need to go into self-isolation could be financially supported, the politician said that he would encourage the issue to be discussed. At the same time, Skride pointed out that it was necessary to evaluate the support options already available and to take into account that a large amount of funds had already been spent in the past to provide support due to the problems caused by the proliferation of Covid-19.

It has already been reported that last day Covid-19 was detected in 109 people in Latvia, which is the largest number of cases detected in one day, informs the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).

A total of 4416 Covid-19 examinations were performed in the last day. 2.47% of all tests performed last day were positive. The SPKC has indicated that this indicator is considered important in the European Union, because when it exceeds the 3% threshold, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

It has already been reported that the Minister of Health Ilze Hänķele (AP) told LTV that the new tactics in the fight against Covid-19 in Latvia are local restrictions or responsibilities.

Vinkele estimated that the current growth rates of Covid-19 in Latvia look dramatic, but it should be taken into account that this increase is from a low morbidity level. According to the minister, “there is no reason to panic”, but we should not relax either.
