Skoda will reduce salaries and cancel shifts. The unions also agree

The critical shortage of chips in the automotive industry affects every manufacturer. Many of them are forced to cancel production and store already manufactured cars that lack chips in the parking lot. The problems also concern Škoda, which will have to resort to further measures in the coming period.

Škoda Auto has already had a one-week production shutdown, and more will follow. According to the carmaker’s unions, the goal of this shutdown was “It was to inhale and consolidate the supply of semiconductors.” Jaroslav Povšík from the Škoda Auto unions said: “Unfortunately, we did not succeed as we imagined and we will have to slow down production again. Unfortunately, we do not have good news until the end of this year. This situation is equally group-wide for all Volkswagen holding brands with a preference for Porsche, Audi and heavy-duty cars, which are able to ensure an economic result anyway. ”

And there are also plans to reduce salaries, although not significantly. Jaroslav Povšík commented as follows: “Eventually, the average compensation of earnings may be reduced in the event of an obstacle on the part of the employer, but by a maximum of 5 percent, ie to 80 percent of the average wage. The earnings thus provided shall cover the daily wage plus or minus according to the relevant class. “ He also mentioned that in order to maintain as many jobs as possible, but also production, a favorable development of the coronavirus situation is also necessary. “We need a good development of the covid-19 pandemic, ie support for staff in vaccination in a similar percentage as SEAT, ie over 98 percent, including agency staff.” he said.

However, the unions added with one breath that further disruption of production at Škoda Auto was definitely on the agenda. In the latest issue of the Škoda Trade Union magazine, they stated: “In the 41st calendar week, it will be significantly worse with the cancellation of shifts. In all car production plants in Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny, all Monday and Tuesday shifts are canceled. In addition, the night shift from Tuesday to Wednesday is canceled at the assembly, welding and paint shops in Mladá Boleslav. The MB B paint shop and the MBI assembly will not have a Thursday and Friday night shift in addition. For the rest of the week, the assembly and the MBI welding shop will run in a limited mode. The night and morning Saturday shift is also canceled in the MB A paint shop. Furthermore, both assemblies, the paint shop and the welding shops in Kvasiny have canceled all Friday and Saturday shifts. There may also be restrictions on presses, axles and PK in relation to production needs. “
