Škoda Vision Gran Turismo: The Latest Addition to GT7 with Historical Inspiration and High-Tech Features

In recent years, we have seen several concepts from various car manufacturers that have referenced the popular game series Gran Turismo in their name. It appeared on the PlayStation console for the first time in 1997 and continues to entertain fans of virtual racing with an emphasis on driving features and an offer of exciting cars that you can get behind the wheel.

The latest addition is the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo car, which should appear in the current edition of Gran Turismo 7 from April 25. And fans of the brand will be able to drive around famous circuits with it.

The inspiration for the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo concept design was the historic racing cars of the Mladá Boleslav car company, such as the Škoda 110 OHC or the Škoda 130 RS. At the same time, however, the brand’s new design style, called Modern Solid, is also visible.

The difference between the past and the present can also be seen in the colors of the car. The automaker has created two versions, with one dressed in green paint similar to the shade used on the Vision 7S concept, while the other car is dressed in white-blue colors with red detailing, recalling the Škoda 130 RS racer that shone at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1977.

When developing the concept, the brand did not start from the outside, but from the inside. The designers focused on what players see most when racing from the cockpit. And the answer is the steering wheel, which received a special design and is equipped with all important game elements. The design of the cockpit, including various details, then follows from it.

Although the Vision Gran Turismo concept is a purely digital affair, it contains sophisticated technology. The game is based not only on pleasant graphics, but also on realistic driving simulation.

“The car and its features in the game are defined by more than a hundred technical parameters, some of which are specific to our design,” explained Martin Porteš, who led the team of designers working on the concept Škoda Vision Gran Turismo in the press release.

The concept stands on a vertical electric platform with an 800-volt architecture, a lithium-ion battery is stored in the floor, four electric motors (two on each axle) and offers a total output of 800 kW. The driving characteristics are then improved by the active aerodynamics system.

The development of the car at the car company began as an enthusiastic project, and was developed during lunch. But finally the concept reached the main designer of the brand, and Oliver Stefani was also enthusiastic about it.
