The Czech car manufacturer Škoda has finished testing the new generation Superb and Kodiaq beyond the Arctic Circle.
The fourth-generation liftback Superb and the second-generation crossover Kodiaq, announced by the manufacturer as new in 2023, were tested in harsh conditions at the test site beyond the Arctic Circle.
Škoda informs that both models had to pass tests in snowy driving conditions down to minus 30 degrees, during which the effect of snow on the body, its penetration into the engine compartment and air intake openings was checked.
All mechanical functions of the body and electricity must work flawlessly even at a temperature of minus 25 degrees, the engine must be able to start up to minus 30 degrees. All doors, bonnet and boot lid, as well as fuel filler and charging socket covers on plug-in hybrid vehicles must open even in these adverse conditions.
Engineers conducted tests to find out how the suspension and shock absorbers behave in extreme cold, the all-wheel drive system, how efficient the interior heating systems are, how quickly they defrost the windows, how the multimedia touch screen works.
In addition, for the plug-in hybrid versions, the high-voltage batteries were charged when they were cold, in order to determine their maximum range as objectively as possible.
