The Czech carmaker plans to save 60 tons of CO in this way compared to trucks equipped with a diesel engine2 annually. The company stated this in a press release.
The company has been using two electric tractors at the main plant since October 1. “After the successful trial operation of both purely electric tractors within the in-house fleet, we are gradually moving to purely electric trucks. We also want to give impetus to our local suppliers. In the medium term, we plan to ensure that all components supplied by trucks from the immediate area of our plants, they will reach our production lines with zero local emissions, “said Michael Oeljeklaus, a member of the Škoda Auto Board of Directors.

Electric tractors are equipped with standard semi-trailers, which will replace the existing diesel-powered tractors on the relevant routes by May next year. In the next phase, from June 2022, specially manufactured shortened semi-trailers will transport batteries for electric cars at the plant in Mladá Boleslav. For this purpose, the semi-trailers will be equipped with handling technology for automatic loading and unloading of pallets.
The range of locally emission-free trucks is approximately 80 kilometers per battery charge and it takes 4.5 hours to recharge the batteries to full capacity. They consume about 200 kWh of electricity per 100 kilometers of driving. In addition to electric and diesel tractors, Škoda also uses natural gas (CNG) tractors, thanks to which it was possible to reduce CO emissions on the plant premises.2 compared to conventional cars by 25 percent.
