Not even the richest person far and wide has a chance to buy a new Škoda. Who will drive the new camper?
There is a new Škoda model here, great. So far, the car evokes only positive emotions, although none of the brand’s fans expected it. The development of a new car is shrouded in mystery for many people outside the industry. It’s not just that car companies keep preparations and production secret. The public usually has no idea how a car is created somewhere in the secret premises of a car company. How does one go about designing an entirely new car model?
It won’t work without a proper name. And does it have to end in Q?!
What is the most important thing to have, even before the first pencil touches the paper and the designer begins to shape the first curves? “At the beginning, the direction, name and vision of the entire project must be chosen,” says Jiří Hadaščok, exterior design coordinator, in the video presenting the new Škoda Academy car, “and even here at the motorhome.” This was evidently what twenty-nine pupils of the Škoda Auto Secondary Vocational School had to solve when they changed the purely electric Škoda Enyaq into a mobile home with a mobile office.
The new Škoda is therefore not a popular diesel station wagon, but an electric camper. This is the ninth project created as part of the traditional flagship project of the Škoda Auto Secondary Vocational School. The unique is built on the foundations of Enyag, with which it therefore shares the basis of the bodywork, as well as drive systems. If there is a need for a name, it is already obvious, it is Škoda Roadiaq. This fulfills the need to have the letter “Q” at the end of the word.
And let’s say the first part corresponds to the idea of travel. However, on the road, meaning “road”, you can also drive an ordinary car, not just a residential one. According to the automaker’s press materials, the Roadiaq is a sustainable, all-electric all-wheel drive car that digital nomads can use for travel, work and leisure.
Electricity makes sense in the city, certainly not in a mobile home
Well, one can understand the need to build a car on an electric car and be so chargeable to the times. However, electricity as a drive for long journeys does not make sense. It’s not a matter of criticism, all credit to the students, the car looks good. And not only from the outside. AND work and effort can be seen from the inside, the car has everything a modern mobile office needs. There is a permanent Internet connection, a 27-inch monitor and a docking station. Even so, the car can be converted in a few simple steps from a working space to a living space with a bed and a small kitchen.
Only one place to sleep could be debatable, one does not always want to travel alone and a single bed could be limiting. In reality, the absence of a larger bed does not matter, because no one will sleep in the car. As has already been mentioned several times, it is the work of Škoda Academy students and as such will not be mass produced. So, even with a million crowns, a potential buyer has no chance to buy this car and take it on the road.
