Škoda Octavia: Latest Innovations and Discussion Summary

Already yesterday, the car manufacturer from Mladá Boleslav presented innovations for its best-selling model. After the first twenty-four hours, we took a look at the discussion below our article to find out what was being discussed the most. We supplement it with our observations and summarize the most important things you should know.

On Valentine’s Day, the new Škoda Octavia was finally completely revealed. Škodovka has been tempting us for the latest news for the last month, and when it finally presented it, it pleasantly surprised us. The improved Škoda Octavia has a more elegant design, and it is surprising how the original model literally aged hour by hour in terms of design. One of the most significant innovations is the new front headlights following the radiator grille, which look really sensational!

Škoda’s designers already made a random exchange of the “eyes” of the brand’s best-selling model with the previous third generation, when in 2017 they turned the boring corporate design with ordinary headlights into an original design – that’s when the “four-eyed” Octavia was born from the pen of the team of chief designer Jozef Kabana. While the new headlights on the latest successor may look like a subtle change, they are quite fundamental to the overall styling of the model.

Important innovations in the innovation of the bestseller are also the modernized range of engines with the absence of the weakest liter three-cylinder engines and now up to 195 kW (265 horses) for the most powerful sports Octavia RS or the most modern infotainment with integrated ChatGPT artificial intelligence. We already gave our first opinion on the latest Octavia after the facelift, but what about you? We took a look at the discussion below our article yesterday and bring you a summary of how the news is liked by the discussing readers.

The end of three cylinders

Already at the beginning of this year, we encountered it with the latest modernized Golf, and now the Octavia has officially arrived with it. The Volkswagen concern is giving up the once basic three-cylinder 1.0 TSI petrol engines, and the weaker specification of the popular four-cylinder 1.5 TSI with an output of 85 kW (115 hp) is now the standard Octavia engine. It is 4 kW more powerful than the original weakest three-cylinder, and with the resulting 220 newton meters, it has a 10 percent higher torque.

Our readers expect that the new weakest Octavia will be more pleasant to live with in daily urban rush hours, especially during frequent departures. From the point of view of maximum performance, we can expect that compared to the more powerful fifteen-cylinder with 110 kW (150 horses) and 250 newton meters, the engine will lack juice at higher revs.

Engines Type Power and torque Driven wheels Transmission 1.5 TSI 85 kW and 220 Nm front 6 MT 1.5 TSI mHEV 85 kW and 220 Nm front 7 DSG 1.5 TSI 110 kW and 250 Nm front 6 MT 1.5 TSI mHEV 110 kW and 250 Nm front 7 DSG 2.0 TSI 150 kW and 320 Nm all 7 DSG 2.0 TSI 195 kW and 370 Nm front 7 DSG 2.0 TDI 85 kW and 300 Nm front 6 MT 2.0 TDI 110 kW and 360 Nm front 7 DSG

On the other hand, some are worried about the engine’s lifespan, because in the past the basic 1.0 TSI unit was already a proven basic engine, which also did not suffer on short distances. I also don’t like the potential presence of “vibrating” ACT cylinder shutdown in the weaker 1500, as it is in the more powerful one. We will try to find out for you how it will actually be directly from the press department of the car company.

Absence of a manual for both diesel and RS

During the official unveiling of the facelift and technical modernization for the Octavia, our readers also immediately noticed that the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic DSG dominates the offer of engines from gearboxes. Škoda will sell you the traditional six-speed manual transmission only in combination with basic units or the popular “middle” gasoline four-cylinder. Readers miss manual transmissions, especially in more powerful models.

The six-speed manual is now only available for the weakest gasoline four-cylinder 1.5 TSI with 85 kW (115 hp), the weakest diesel four-cylinder 2.0 TDI with 85 kW (115 hp) and the ideal compromise popular in the past – the gasoline four-cylinder 1.5 TSI with 110 kW (150 hp) . All other engines are sold exclusively with a seven-speed dual clutch, including one of the best-selling engines – the four-cylinder turbodiesel 2.0 TDI with 110 KW (150 hp). For that, some people from among our discussing readers would also welcome an ordinary manual transmission.

The improved Škoda Octavia RS has said goodbye to the six-valve backdrop modeled after the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Along with the new design, it also received a stronger two-liter TSI from the EA888 engine family, which will develop a maximum output of 195 kW (265 hp), while it still has the same 370 newton meters. As in the last months before the facelift, the “eReSo” is no longer available with a more driver’s manual.

The return of 4×4 with a single engine

After many months, all-wheel drive is returning to Škoda’s bestseller. However, the automaker has officially announced that it has definitively discontinued production of previously popular versions such as the RS with a 2.0 TDI diesel engine and 4×4 drive, as well as more adventurous scouts with four-wheel drive. The only Octavia with a four-wheel drive will be a new engine, which we have not seen before the facelift.

From 2025, the new Škoda Octavia will also be available with a more powerful standard two-liter TSI of 150 kW (204 hp) with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive. Purely in theory, it can be the spiritual successor of the once popular three-cylinder Octavia with a 2.0 TSI engine of 140 kW (190 hp) and is offered as an ideal compromise between the most powerful fifteen-seat model and the top sports version of the RS. Unfortunately, it’s a shame that we won’t see a four-wheeler even with the most powerful diesel engine.

More stylish design and more modern infotainment

Exterior design and interior architecture are both objective and subjective matters. In our discussion, we mainly talk about the continued absence of classic climate control, which even after the facelift you will operate exclusively on the touch screen. In the case of the most modern Octavia, it is based on a standard 10″ or larger 13″ screen. The voice assistant Laura is newly proud of the integrated ChatGPT function with artificial intelligence for a wider range of voice control and a more advanced technological level of the system.

Our discussing readers also noticed another positive benefit – the automaker has significantly increased the performance of USB-C ports for charging mobile phones and other portable devices. It can now charge with a power of up to 45 kW, which is three times higher than before. The wireless charger with active cooling then charges with a power of 15 kW.

And at the end of our summary, we come back to the new design, because as usual, some people like it, others don’t. Automotive design has been a subjective matter for decades and it depends only on your taste.

And pricing expectations are unsurprising comments in our discussion. However, Mladoboleslavská Škodovka has not yet published the price list and we will have to wait for its unveiling. Continue to follow Auto.cz, because we will inform you about it immediately.
