“Skoda” names the electric “Elroq”

The segment “under 30” of electric cars, which does not have enough offer that we wrote about a week ago and in this regard we were happy with the new “VW ID.3”, gets another interesting experience.

“Skoda” has presented an affordable electric SUV “Elroq”.

This model is very important for the Czech car manufacturer, because it is not only an affordable electric SUV at the same price as the Karoq in the same class with an internal combustion engine, but also the first model of the brand to embrace Skoda’s new “Modern”. Solid” design language..

Orders have already started in Europe. Customers are offered four variants: three with rear-wheel drive and one with all-wheel drive. The new electric car costs from 33,000 euros (with state support it would actually be “under 30”), which is a comparable price to the same size “Karoq” with an internal combustion engine and lower than the winner of our “Elektroauto 2024/ 25” competition “Volvo EX30”.

The new Škoda “Modern Solid” design was announced back in 2022. More than a year and a half has passed since then, and now slim light blocks with pixel graphics hardly surprise anyone.

Among other visual innovations, it is worth noting that the “Skoda” logo has disappeared from the body – there is an inscription with the brand name instead.

The electric car is based on the MEB modular platform, on which other 100% electric models of the brands belonging to the “Volkswagen” responsibility are also built. The SUV has MacPherson-type suspension at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear, while the rear brakes are so-called drum or rim brakes. Although “Elroq” represents the same market segment where “Karoq” is currently equipped with internal combustion engines, the electric car is slightly taller than it in terms of dimensions: the overall length of “Elroq” is 4.48 meters against “Karoq” 4.39 meters, width – 1, 88 against 1,84 meters; but the height is 1.62 against 1.6 meters. Elroq’s wheelbase is 2765 millimeters, while Karoq’s is 2638 millimeters. The ground clearance of the new electric SUV is 186 millimeters, and the drag coefficient is 0.26-0.28, depending on the modification.

The entry-level Elroq 50 is equipped with a 170-horsepower electric motor that drives the rear wheels. The battery has a capacity of 55 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and provides a range of up to 375 kilometers in the WLTP cycle without recharging. The “Elroq 60” is also rear wheel drive, but it already has a 204 hp electric motor, a 63 kWh battery and a range of over 400 km.

The maximum driving speed of both versions is limited to 160 km/h. They accelerate from zero to “hundred” in 9.0 and 8.5 seconds, respectively.

The third rear wheel drive version in this range is the most powerful: “Elroq 85” equipped with a 286 hp electric motor. Finally, the all-wheel drive version “Elroq 85x” has two electric motors with a total power of 299 hp. The two named versions are equipped with an 82 kWh battery, both accelerate to 180 km / h and travel 560 kilometers without recharging.

It is promised that the new “Škoda Elroq” will be available for order in Latvia from November, and its price will be announced shortly before that. The first cars ordered will arrive to customers next spring.
