Škoda Auto should soon introduce a new electric car, on which it will also apply a new design language. He is already testing the integration into the production line in the Mladá Boleslav factory, revealed the Škoda trade unionist. There he is referred to as the Elroq model. Škoda Auto does not want to confirm whether this is the final name. “So far, it’s still a working name,” say the carmaker’s representatives.
“This week, the Elroq will be tested again between sections,” he said in the fresh edition weekly Škodovácký odborář. After all, similar information appeared in the May 26 issue. “Trial operations are underway on new lines to produce the new Elroq electric car. They were built in the former molding warehouse,” the union added.
The carmakers’ representatives do not want to confirm whether the new Škoda will actually be named in this way. “It’s still a working name, there are more variants,” he defends. He is waiting for a more comprehensive opinion from the editors.
Elroq is to be an electric model that will use the MEB platform identical to Enyaq and also, for example, the Volkswagen ID.3. It will probably be a compact model the size of a Kamiq, but not larger than the Karoq. The Elroq is said to be available with rear-wheel drive, offering 150 horsepower and with the smallest 48kWh of batteries to handle a range of 300 kilometers.
So it’s probably not a planned small electric car that should be manufactured under Satt’s baton in Spain at the Martorell plant, and which we informed here. This smaller electric car on the shortened MEB Entry platform with front-wheel drive will be offered under the Cupra, Škoda and Volkswagen brands. It is due to come into production in 2025. These are to be available electric hatchbacks, which are to replace, among other things, the successful Škoda Citigo-e iV, the production of which ended last year without a successor.
Sketches of future electric minicars were recently released on the Volkswagen Group’s account at LinkedIn social network. “These basic electric cars will simplify access to electric mobility and move the future mobility of countries – for future generations,” the carmaker added to the pictures.
But “Elroq” should come sooner, probably in a year, and will be produced in Mladá Boleslav, where it makes sense given the same platform with Enyaq. Elements in a new design language called “Modern Solid”, which was first unveiled, could already appear on it. at the end of March at the annual press conference. The carmaker wants to introduce three new fully electric models by 2030. In addition to the basic model, the bestseller Octavia will also receive an electric equivalent.
