A long series of announcements, teasers and promises has come to an end: the compact electric crossover Skoda Elroq has been completely declassified, and tomorrow European dealers will open orders for these cars. The Elroq is considered to be Skoda’s most popular electric car, but its first appearance is important not only for this reason.

Ahead of us is the first Skoda production with a design in the new Modern Solid body style (a name two and a half years ago) and with the Tech Deck Face, which is characterized by a two-story lighting system and a single stripe across the entire width of the front end (in the welcome version of the First Edition it also shines ). Unfortunately, the iconic Skoda logo has disappeared everywhere: on the hood, back and steering wheel of the Elroc there is only a large inscription with the brand name. The spirit of the times… However, the original plastic body is preserved.

Elroq is a battery-powered classmate of the familiar Skoda Karoq crossover, which remains in the range for now. In terms of overall dimensions, Elroq is slightly higher than its cousin: length – 4488 mm against 4390 mm, width – 1884 mm against 1841 mm, height – 1625 mm against 1603 mm. But the most obvious advantage of the electric car is in the wheelbase: 2765 mm instead of 2638 mm for the Karok, and this guarantees space in the cabin. Ground clearance is 186 mm.

The developers promise good aerodynamics: the Cd coefficient is from 0.26 to 0.28, depending on the version. Wheels with an optimized pattern (diameter from 19 to 21 inches) also work for this. The Sportline package is immediately offered, which includes an abundance of black accessories, an extended spoiler on the fifth door, matrix headlights, animated turn signals, a stiffer sports suspension (without 15 mm of of ground at the front and 10 mm at the rear), as well as a steering device with advanced “thread” slats.

The Skoda Elroq electric car is based on the all-Volkswagen MEB modular platform with McPherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear. A special feature of this “trolley” is also kept: drum brakes on the rear wheels. The range includes four variants, three of which are rear-wheel drive. The basic Skoda Elroq 50 has an electric motor weighing 1874 kg with an output of 170 hp. and 310 Nm, and the lithium-ion traction battery capacity is 55 kWh. Cruising range: 375 km on the WLTP cycle. The parameters of the next version of Elroq 60 are 204 hp. and 310 Nm, and a battery with a capacity of 63 kWh should be enough for more than 400 km. The maximum speed of both options is 160 km / h, and the acceleration time to “hundreds” is 9.0 and 8.5 seconds, respectively.

The rear-wheel drive Skoda Elroq 85 has an engine of 286 hp and 545 Nm, and in the all-wheel drive version of the Elroq 85x, two engines produce a total of 299 hp. (torque not yet released). Such crossovers are equipped with a battery with a capacity of 82 kWh, they can accelerate to 180 km / h and travel more than 560 km on one charge. The rear-wheel drive version reaches “hundreds” in 6.6 seconds; the figure for the twin-engine version has not yet been released. Cars can be charged both from AC stations (11 kW) and from fast DC terminals: the two younger versions can receive power up to 145 kW and 165 kW, respectively, and the older ones – up to 175 kW.

The interior of the Skoda Elroq crossover balances next to fashionable solutions and tradition. On the one hand, there is a compact instrument screen, a 13-inch media system display, a small transmission control joystick and a two-story central tunnel. On the other hand, there are several analog buttons and switches on the front panel and the steering wheel. Already in the “base” there is a telematics system (control of some functions from a smartphone), climate control, rear view camera and several electronic assistants. The top version has nine airbags.

Well, what’s a Skoda without a big trunk? The Elroq has a storage capacity of 470 liters and with the rear row folded down it holds 1,580 litres. Of course, there are shelves, areas, hooks, a two-level floor and other elements of the Simply Clever series. And a direct electrical feature is a durable mesh for storing the charging cable, attached to the bottom of the luggage rack.

Elroq will be produced in the Czech Republic. And it has already been announced that the basic version will cost 33,900 euros, and even less on the domestic market: 799 thousand crowns, which is equal to 31,600 euros. In Germany, this compares to the price of the Skoda Karoq petrol crossover, which they want from 33,140 euros. Although the basic Karoq on the Czech market costs 660 thousand crowns. The rear-wheel drive versions of the Elroq 50 and Elroq 85 will be the first to go on sale; they are expected in early 2025. Two other options will follow in a few months.
