Škoda Auto will resume production on Sunday evening. The outage was caused by missing chips

Škoda Auto will resume production in most production facilities on Sunday evening after a two-week shutdown, said spokeswoman Kamila Biddle. The reason for the outage was the lack of chips used in on-board electronics.

“Most of Škoda Auto’s production facilities will resume production after a two-week shutdown on Sunday, ie today, starting at night shift from 22:00,” Biddle said on Sunday.

An exception during the outage was one line in Kvasiny. During it, the company focused on completing about 10,000 disassembled cars. In the long run, the number of unfinished cars ranged between 30,000 and 50,000.

Škoda Auto employees stayed at home for 80 percent of their average salary, which includes, for example, extraordinary annual bonuses. Wage compensation thus roughly corresponds to daily earnings. Agency staff also received wage compensation.

The carmaker has previously announced that due to a critical shortcoming, the production of new cars is endangered probably until the end of the year. There is thus a risk of significant reduction or complete cessation of production.

Last year, Škoda Auto delivered over a million cars worldwide. It operates three production plants in the Czech Republic, produces in China, Russia, Slovakia and India, mostly through group partnerships, as well as in Ukraine and Kazakhstan in cooperation with local partners. It is active in more than 100 markets.
