On Wednesday, February 14, the automobile company Škoda Auto ceremoniously presented the modernization of its best-selling Octavia model in both body versions, i.e. liftback and station wagon. The modernization of the fourth generation brings minor design improvements, a slightly changed interior and revised equipment. Improvements have also been made in terms of technique and technology.
Let’s start with the innovative design, which is particularly impressive with the new headlights, which use LED technology as standard and are optionally available with Matrix LED technology. The headlights have a new light signature and contain two LED modules, the appearance of which is enhanced by a new blue colored detail.

The outer Bi-LED module is used for dipped and high beams, the inner Matrix module has 36 individual light segments in two rows, which is 12 more than the current model. The fog lights have been replaced by the bad weather light function, which optimally adapts the light output to the current light conditions.
The rear lights also have LED technology as standard, but they are available in two versions, where the Top LED rear lights also have an animated Coming/Leaving Home function. Animated direction indicators along with the upper segment of the C-shaped taillights extend into the fifth door.

Also new are the bumpers, which extend the total length of both body designs by 9 mm to the resulting 4698 mm. The front bumper has new sporty shapes and better air intakes. The radiator grille was also modified, the sides of which correspond to the height of the new headlights.
The range of alloy wheels has grown to include aerodynamic 16″ Matar wheels, black 17″ Slagard alloy wheels, 18″ Lerna alloy wheels and 19″ Elias alloy wheels for RS models with black aerodynamic covers. The range of colors remained the same, with three non-metallic shades and seven metallic ones complementing several dozen shades from the premium paint range.
A more modern and ecological cabin
The cabin will offer a 10″ digital instrument panel and a 10″ virtual cockpit mini as standard. However, infotainment with a 13″ touchscreen is now available as an option. In addition, the voice assistant Laura will be supplemented by the chatbot ChatGPT, which works with artificial intelligence.
Also new will be the improved Kessy system, which will automatically unlock or lock the car as soon as the driver approaches or moves away within 1.5 meters. In addition, USB-C connectors can charge at a power of up to 45 watts, i.e. three times more than before.
After modernization, the cabin is also equipped with new upholstery, decorative moldings and door panels. Sustainable materials, such as recycled fabrics and sustainably processed leather, got a bigger say. The trim strips have a new shade of Dark Chrome and the steering wheel is decorated with the new Škoda logo.
The range of Simply Clever elements is expanded to include the automatic release of the roller shutter cover in the Combi model or a special storage box in the center tunnel, where rear seat passengers can store a bag, cup or bottle. The pocket in the luggage compartment has two new hooks, the tablet holder is also new on the sports seats, and the ice scraper and umbrella are made of sustainable materials.

Higher performance and absence of batteries
The range of power units is opened by the 1.5 TSI petrol engine, available with a six-speed manual and a seven-speed gearbox and optionally supplemented with a mild-hybrid 48V system. The engine is available in a configuration with the highest output of 85 kW (115 hp) and 220 Nm of torque, respectively 110 kW (150 hp) and 250 Nm of torque. Both engines feature ACT+ cylinder deactivation for lower fuel consumption.
A more powerful gasoline alternative is the 2.0 TSI engine, also available in two configurations. The engine operates with a fuel injection pressure of up to 350 bar, has improved intake and optimized friction. A seven-speed automatic always takes care of power transmission to the wheels.
The engine works in the Budack cycle with a compression ratio of 12.2:1 and in the basic version, combined with all-wheel drive, offers a maximum output of 150 kW (204 hp). Compared to the older version, it has increased by 10 kW (14 hp). The top engine of the Octavia RS model has been boosted by 15 kW (20 hp) to the resulting 195 kW (265 hp).
There are also 2.0 TDI diesel engines in the configuration of 85 kW (115 hp) with a six-speed manual transmission and 110 kW (150 hp) in combination with a seven-speed automatic. The Twin Dosing system again takes care of the emissions adjustment.
Surprisingly, the offer lacks a plug-in hybrid engine, while the sister Volkswagen Golf received a more powerful system as part of the modernization, available for example in the Škoda Superb or Kodiaq models, which offers a purely electric range of around 100 kilometers. However, it is possible that the system will appear in the offer of the Mladá Boleslav brand later.

Even smarter
With the modernization, Škoda Octavia also received an improved driver fatigue detection system, taken over from the Superb and Kodiaq models. The system works with more information, including the lane keeping system, and works with a new algorithm to evaluate it. It detects deviations from the normal way of driving from a speed of 65 km/h.
Also new is the automatic parking version, available only with automatic transmission. In addition to steering, the system now also controls braking, vehicle speed and the direction of travel forward or backward. It automatically stops in front of an obstacle and allows the parking maneuver to be saved. Another novelty is the control of the parking maneuver via the MyŠkoda application via Bluetooth.
Sports character
For fans of cars with a sporty character, the automaker offers the Sportline sports equipment, which received a sports chassis lowered by 15 mm and progressive steering. The frame of the radiator grille, moldings around the side windows, covers of the exterior mirrors, additional elements on the front bumper or the rear diffuser were painted in black metallic paint.
Part of the standard equipment of the Octavia Sportline model are new 17″ Slagard brushed aerodynamic wheels and the front fenders are decorated with Sportline plaques in a new design. The new Škoda logo on the hood and the Škoda inscription on the fifth door are black. The lettering projected onto the ground from the front doors reflects the brand’s new corporate identity Shame, the decorative sill plates are also black.
In the interior, we can find a three-spoke sports multifunctional leather steering wheel, pedal covers made of stainless steel or a decorative strip imitating carbon on the instrument panel. The Sportline interior includes sports seats upholstered in gray recycled fabric combined with synthetic leather.

Stronger MS
The traditional sports highlight is represented by the Octavia RS model, which comes with a 2.0 TSI engine with a power of 195 kW (265 hp) in combination with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. The chassis is lowered by 15 mm, there is progressive steering or electro-hydraulic locking of the VAQ differential.
The Octavia RS is newly equipped with an original sports exhaust system with black tailpipes. The sound of the model is supported by the new engine software, which increases the engine speed at start-up and brings even more driving pleasure in sports mode.
The sporty look is underlined by a number of specific design elements. The grille frame, moldings around the side windows, exterior mirror caps and roof rails are finished in gloss black. Black details are also found on the front bumper or the rear bumper diffuser.
The equipment can include 18″ aerodynamically optimized wheels, the alternative is 19″ polished wheels. There are standard Matrix-LED headlights and rear Top LED lights. In addition, the car is decorated with a new design of the RS logo, which is located on the body and in the interior.
The cabin comes with 13″ infotainment as standard and there are also sports seats with integrated headrests and the new RS logo, which are covered in quilted fabric with red decorative stitching on the seats. The dashboard is covered in neoprene combined with synthetic leather and decorated with red stitching. There are carbon decorations or stainless steel pedal covers.
The RS Suite interior is available as an option with electrically operated sports seats with Suedia perforated microfiber and synthetic leather upholstery. The seats are decorated with red contrasting stitching and there is also an electrically adjustable lumbar support and a massage function. The design part of the instrument panel is covered with Suedia microfiber and is complemented by two rows of contrasting stitching in red.
