Škoda Auto: Unvaccinated people may lose their position

“We will probably receive a letter from the management in the coming days that those who do not have vaccinations can move him to another place where he no longer travels abroad. In any case, that would be a downward shift, “confirmed one of the employees to Práva.

“When someone is not vaccinated, they take it as a barrier to the performance of certain positions, and they can move such a worker elsewhere,” added the source of Práva.

The company’s management has confirmed that it is trying to get its employees to be vaccinated. “From the beginning, we support vaccination as the most effective way to return to a normal life, and therefore we want to motivate and extremely appreciate those colleagues who protect themselves and their surroundings through vaccination. From 1 August 2021, it is only possible to send employees on foreign business trips who have completed vaccinations against covid-19, “confirmed the car’s spokeswoman Martina Gillichová.

A problem for thousands of employees

Any move could affect many people. Thousands of employees travel to the Group’s foreign plants, from technicians in development, testing or production, through laboratory, marketing and sales and other professions, to management at all levels.

However, a large proportion of employees are already vaccinated. The carmaker did not disclose how many workers the vaccine has. “The goal is to vaccinate all employees,” said a company spokeswoman.

At the same time, the carmaker strictly adheres to and controls various anti-epidemic measures, from wearing veils to testing to keeping spacings and disinfecting.

“We have taken over 80 measures against the spread of the disease in all areas of the company and have implemented a number of procedures beyond mandatory regulations. The rules at Škoda Auto are usually set stricter than government regulations in the Czech Republic, “said Gillichová.

Area testing in a car factory

According to her, in agreement with the unions, comprehensive testing is still ongoing at the carmaker. “Employees regularly perform an antigen test at the workplace after seven calendar days at the latest,” the spokeswoman said.

This week and next, however, some workers remain at home. The carmaker significantly reduced production due to a critical shortage of chips. Only SUVs are produced in limited quantities at the plant in Kvasiny.

The carmaker would get into financial trouble if it had more than 55,000 cars parked and unfinished. The current production capacity is over 3.5 thousand cars per day.

Therefore, production is limited so that unfinished cars do not accumulate in parking lots. Production employees are at home and receive 80 percent of their salary. The average earnings of tariff employees, including bonuses, are 58 thousand crowns.
