Škoda Auto: There will be enough cables, but other parts are missing

The cable bundles were imported by the carmaker from Ukraine, but due to the war, their production was limited and it suspended the production of cars. Therefore, part of the Ukrainian employees moved to the plant in Mladá Boleslav. At the same time, the carmaker secured new production capacity in Morocco and Romania.

“Cable harnesses for the Fabia Combi model are currently being set up in Mladá Boleslav, and production for the Octavia, Kodiaq, Karoq and Superb model lines will also start in the coming weeks,” said Tomáš Kotera, a spokesman for the carmaker.

In addition to the new capacities, the production of cable harnesses was resumed at the Ukrainian plant in Zhytomyr. The company thus ensures the production of parts in several places. The same applies to high-voltage cable harnesses, which are needed, among other things, to charge Enyaq electric cars.

From the end of June, these cable harnesses will be produced in Romania and from September also in the plant in the Ukrainian city of Khmelnytsky.

No night shifts

Nevertheless, the production of cars in the company is still not at maximum capacity and the night shifts are canceled. “We are still struggling with a shortage of some parts, in addition to chips or door panels, USB ports in Kvasiny, for example, were missing,” the unions said in their weekly. In addition to canceling night shifts, the company also slows down production on some lines.
While in the period before the covid pandemic, the total daily capacity in the Mladá Boleslav plant was 2,500 cars per day, these days only 1,700 cars a day leave the lines.

“Next week it should be 1,900 cars a day,” car spokeswoman Gabriela Slabihoudková told Práva, according to whom, however, due to the still unstable situation, further developments are badly predicted.

According to unions, for example, 130 cars are going under the assembly of the Octavia. Over 4,000 cars are produced on this line in a week, of which a thousand enyaq and over 3,000 octaves.

Night shifts don’t work at all. Other lines are in a similar situation, but the carmaker is counting on a gradual increase in capacity. “Last week, a production test of 166 Enyaq cars took place in one shift. It’s a preparation for the future 500 enyaqs a day, “the unions said.
