Škoda Auto sold 30 percent fewer cars, it is the worst of the VW group

In the first half of the year, Škoda Auto from Mladoboleslav delivered 360,600 cars to customers worldwide, which is a year-on-year decrease of 30 percent. In my message this was announced by the Volkswagen parent group today. The drop in sales of the Czech automaker’s vehicles is the deepest in half a year of all the brands that Volkswagen reports on separately.

The Volkswagen Group’s global sales in the first half of the year fell by more than 20 percent year-on-year to 3.88 million cars.

In the second quarter, Škoda delivered 174,400 cars to its customers, which is a year-on-year drop of 34.4 percent. June sales amounted to 66,000 cars and were 26.6 percent lower than the same month last year.

As for the entire half-year, the second largest percentage drop in sales from the Volkswagen Group was registered by the Seat/Cupra brand, where sales fell by 27.4 percent compared to last year’s first half. It is followed by truck manufacturer MAN with a drop of 26.4 percent and Scania with a drop of 25.2 percent.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), car sales in the EU fell by 14 percent in the first half of the year. “A number of well-known brands had sales of less than 80 percent of last year. Volvo, Fiat and Citroën had the deepest drop. Unfortunately, Škoda also lost almost a quarter of last year’s result. It is evident that problems in supply chains are taking a heavy toll, primarily among European automakers. On the contrary, Kia and Dacia, for example, grew at a double-digit rate,” EY’s automotive industry partner Petr Knap told ČTK.

Volkswagen stated that, on the contrary, it increased sales of electric cars year-on-year by 27 percent to 217,100 in the first half of the year. The most significant percentage increase is in China, where it is over 247 percent, the second is the rest of the world category with a growth of 29 percent. In Europe, sales of electric cars from the Volkswagen Group increased by less than one percent, while in the United States, on the other hand, they fell by more than eight percent.

Škoda Auto increased its sales of electric cars by 25.5 percent year-on-year to 22,200 in the first half of the year. In the second quarter, however, its sales fell by 12.3 percent and reached 13,400 cars, but in June alone, sales increased by almost 260 percent year-on-year and amounted to 8,800.
