The company’s management confirmed that production has been resuming since November 1, but the carmaker did not provide further details on volumes and specific conditions.

“Most of Škoda Auto’s production facilities will resume production after a two-week shutdown on Sunday, ie today, starting at night shift from 22:00,” said Kamila Biddle, a spokeswoman for the carmaker, on Sunday.

250 thousand less cars
The optimal production capacity is 2,500 cars per day at the Mladá Boleslav plant and another 1,200 cars per day at the plant in Kvasiny, East Bohemia. However, due to the long-lasting shortage of parts, significantly less is produced. Recently, the company’s management stated that approximately 250,000 fewer cars will be produced this year than planned. In the years before the pandemic, production was over 1.2 million cars per year.

In the past two weeks, the carmaker has stopped most of its operations in Mladá Boleslav and the gearbox plant in Vrchlabí. Only one of the two lines for the production of Kodiaq and Karoq models remained in Kvasiny. Work-in-progress cars for which chips were imported were also being completed.

The aim of the shutdown was to significantly reduce the number of unfinished cars parked. Their number has already attacked the limit of 50,000 cars, which threatens the company’s financial situation.

However, the import of chips from Asian countries is still a problem, so in the coming weeks, the pace and volume of production will adjust to how many chips will be available. Two weeks ago, the carmaker admitted that outages could be repeated. They expect the situation to improve in the second half of next year.
