Skoda Auto faces a surplus of people. He will probably move hundreds of them elsewhere

Škoda Auto is going through one of the most difficult periods in history. Since the beginning of the year, unfinished cars, of which there are already tens of thousands, have been accumulating in the parking lots. It caused a global shortage of parts, especially chips.

“Our production is most endangered by scarce chips from Malaysia,” explains the chairman of the Škoda unions Jaroslav Povšík. Malaysia is one of the largest producers of these components in the world. However, due to the coronary crisis, production is significantly limited there.

Trade unionists from Škoda in his weekly magazine inform that the situation will last for at least a few weeks. During them, the carmaker will have to continue to cancel some shifts and leave some of the 35,000 employees at home on so-called barriers at work. “We still manage to negotiate wage compensation in the event of an employer’s obstacle of 85 percent of the average wage,” says Povšík.

According to the unions, the damage is being solved by an “overhang of personnel”. It is not only caused by the lack of chips, but also by the recent decision of the company that the carmaker already will not produce the Fabia Combi in the future. Due to this, it will not be used for hundreds of employees from the production of pressing and partly also welding tools from the tool shop.

The editors of the E15 daily find out about the damage. According to Povšík, however, there is no danger of people losing their jobs. Most likely, however, the company’s management will temporarily move employees to another position. “Employees will retain the tariff class even after moving to another position. After the renewal of orders, they will be allowed to return to the tool shop, “say the unions.

Last year, Škoda Auto delivered over one million cars worldwide. It operates three production plants in the Czech Republic, produces in China, Russia, Slovakia and India, mostly through group partnerships, as well as in Ukraine and Kazakhstan in cooperation with local partners. It operates in more than a hundred markets.
