In the Czech Republic, Škoda Auto convenes 2,028 Octavia, Karoq, Kodiaq and Superb cars equipped with 2.0 TSI evo petrol engines, manufactured from August 2020 to the present, to authorized service centers. Under certain circumstances, cars are in danger of fire, Škoda Auto spokesman Pavel Jína said today. About 1,000 Škoda cars with a plug-in hybrid engine also have to be serviced.

“Under certain circumstances, the engine cover may come loose and move closer to the hot parts of the engine, which may cause thermal deformation and, in extreme cases, a fire in the engine compartment. The service technician removes the cover during operation. Due to the current limitations of production capacities, it is not possible to replace the cover with a new one, “said Jína about the problems with cars with 2.0 TSI evo petrol engines. As soon as the authorized partner stocks the engine cover, he contacts the customer and invites him for retrofitting.
In addition to Škoda, other brands from the Volkswagen Group have a problem, in addition to VW itself, Audi and Seat. The group is convening 100,000 cars worldwide because of this problem, the German daily Bild wrote on its website. The letter refers to the Federal Office for Motor Vehicles (KBA). In Germany alone, according to the office, there have already been 16 cases where this is exactly the situation.
The carmaker Škoda Auto is also convening about 1,000 plug-in hybrid Superb, Octavia iV and Octavia RS iV services for service in the Czech Republic. In extreme cases, the car may catch fire from the battery. However, Škoda does not register any such case yet, spokesmen Jína and Zbyněk Straškraba said today. Roughly 300 of the 1,000 cars convened belong directly to Škoda Auto. “In an extreme case, if there was a short circuit in the battery, the fuse could fail, a discharge could occur and the car could burn out,” Straškraba said. According to the DPA agency, a fire in one Volkswagen Golf GTE car is still registered. In the service, an insulating pad will be installed in the cars.
