In 1992 there was no 8-seater chair construction yet – and yet the Scheffau mountain railway showed its reputation as a visionary company with the construction of the two 4-seater Eibergbahns side by side. It quickly became clear that the Eibergbahnen represent an important link in the SkiWelt and enable high transport capacity. If not needed, one of the two railways could be taken out of service at any time. Every winter season, SkiWelt skiers use the Eibergbahnen around 1.3 million times, so that after 32 years they have made 43 million trips. However, the 4-seater chairs are not entering their well-deserved retirement just yet. Still in excellent technical condition, the cable car has been completely sold abroad and will start its second cable car life there after a general renovation.
The new railway
The new 8-seater Eibergbahn is being built on the same track and, with a dynamic capacity of 1,700 to 4,570 people per hour, it will be the highest accessible 8-seater chairlift in the world. It has a maximum travel speed of 5 m / s, equipped with heated seats and, for reasons of wind and resources, deliberately without a hood. For energy efficiency and resource conservation, it will be possible to insert a variable armchair for at least 16 armchairs, depending on requirements.
The new 140 kWp PV system on top of the Eibergbahn valley station will be the heart of the new Eibergbahn. This can be used to generate around 50% of the annual energy required. Another mile step towards the overall energy efficiency of the SkiWelt mountain railways.
