A skipper has disappeared off the coast of Cap Ferret in Gironde. Friday evening around 8:30 p.m., this man in his sixties raised the alarm. The rigging of his 9-meter sailboat is damaged. A hazard fire is triggered. A fishing vessel diverts to help him.
At the same time, emergency services were launched: a Navy helicopter and an Air Force helicopter were mobilized for the search as night fell.
Arriving in the area around 9:30 p.m., the fishing vessel was able to rescue a woman who was on board the sailboat. One of the helicopters airlifted her to transfer her to the Arcachon hospital center.
Until 2:30 a.m., the helicopter’s divers first secured the sailboat before inspecting the hull and its surroundings. Without success. The man in his sixties remains untraceable.
