Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas and is responsible for helping the body use sugar as energy. Disease Diabetes mellitus This makes the pancreas unable to produce enough insulin. In other conditions, the pancreas can produce insulin, but the insulin produced is not used optimally.

Not only occurs in adults, diabetes mellitus can also attack children and adolescents in Indonesia. Some signs that are common are children with obesity. However, it turns out that a child with skinny body can also get diabetes, why is that?

Related to this, pediatrician, Dr. Muhammad Faizi, Sp.A (K) explained, obese children tend to suffer from type two diabetes because their weight is not controlled.

“Because you eat a lot, there is resistance, the insulin doesn’t work well, the insulin is high, but it’s not effective at lowering sugar,” said Faizi at the IDAI virtual conference in commemoration of World Diabetes Day, Saturday, November 13, 2021.

However, children with type 1 diabetes generally tend to be thin. This is because the fat in the body is depleted because it is broken down by insulin.
