It is necessary to pay close attention to skin color, because its change may be a warning sign of some diseases, according to Dr. Tariq Al-Bashlawi, internal medicine consultant.

Al-Bashlawi said: “If the skin color tends to be grey, yellow, or brown, you must urgently visit a doctor, because these colors may be an indication of a kidney problem.”

The internal medicine consultant added that the reason for the change in skin color when suffering from some kidney diseases is due to the inability of the kidneys to expel toxins, salts and minerals through the urine, which leads to their accumulation in the body.

He revealed that urea is one of the substances that causes the skin to change to a yellowish-brown color in kidney patients, explaining that it results from the process of breaking down protein in the body.

He explained that skin color change is not the only symptom that appears on the skin when suffering from chronic kidney disease, noting that itching is a skin symptom that one must also be wary of.

Al-Beshlawi concluded his speech by pointing out that dry skin may indicate the risk of kidney failure, especially if the patient suffers from rough skin at the same time.
