The winners of Sunday’s Super-G World Cup were Italian skier Federica Brignone and Austrian Cornelia Hütter at the same time. Another Austrian, Tamara Tippler, finished third in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, with a gap of 82 hundred seconds.
In the final races before the Olympic Games in Beijing, several leading competitors were missing from the start, including the defender of the big globe Petra Vlhová, the leader of the World Championships Mikaela Shiffrin, but also the injured third woman of the overall classification Sofia Goggio, or the super-G winner from St. Moritzu Lara Gut-Behrami.
Brignone confirmed that she is doing super-G this season when she has won the discipline for the third time. Before that, she also triumphed in Zauchensee and in the second competition in St. Moritz. With a clear view, he still holds the red jersey for the leader of the discipline. Overall, it was her nineteenth victory in the World Championships.
“It’s fine, we can share joy together. If one of us ended a hundred seconds after another, it would be sad. Winning is a big boost before the Olympics. It will give us peace. There is constant pressure on me because I’m wearing a red jersey. That’s why I also wanted to come here just before the Olympics. It will be the most difficult there and you need to learn to work with stress. Brignone told the FIS.
Hütter took third place in her career. She rejoiced after more than four years, having previously succeeded in the convention in Lake Louise in December 2017. “I’ve had a hard time. I’ve been home for a long time and couldn’t compete. When I crossed the finish line, at first I didn’t understand what was going on. It’s a nice feeling to win again and still celebrate triumph together.” enjoyed the Austrian goal.
Nothing has changed at the top of the overall standings, Shiffrin continues to lead with a lead of 17 points over Vlhova. In the interim super-G classification, leader Brignone increased her lead over compatriot Curtonia to 103 points and is aiming for a small globe.
