The event in Flachau was canceled due to a coronavirus pandemic. The seven-day incidence of COVID-19 cases in the Austrian resort is over 7600. Petra Vlhová triumphed at the prestigious event in 2019 and 2020, finishing fourth last year.
The Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) and the International Ski Federation (FIS) were looking for an alternative venue. “Due to the large number of coronavirus infections, we have decided to take the recommendation of the Salzburg authorities very seriously and there will be no race in Flachau.” quoted the ORF portal from the ÖSV opinion.
They did it that day. The same day and time will be held slalom in Schladming, the resort is about thirty minutes from Flachau. The first round will take place on Tuesday 11 January from 18.00, the second from 20.45. Schladming is a traditional venue for men’s night slalom.
Before that, the skiers will present themselves in giant slalom and slalom on Saturday and Sunday in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. After Schladming, they will move to the neighboring Zauchensee, where there will be a congress on Saturday, January 15, and a super-G a day later, which Petra Vlhová should not miss.
