Ski season starts with 2G, 3G, testing and sometimes quarantine: what counts?

Austria

Austria is in lockdown until at least December 13. Restaurants, shops, cultural institutions and hotels are closed. Travelers from abroad can therefore not stay overnight in Austria. Whether the country will reopen soon depends on the infection rates and the load on the intensive care units.

Only when the lockdown is ended will foreign tourists be able to stay in hotels again. It is expected that a 2G policy will then apply: only vaccinated persons or people who have recently had corona will receive a QR code. As of January, Austria will no longer accept the Janssen vaccine (1 shot) as a full vaccination.

In some places the ski slopes and lifts are open, so now mainly day trippers from the region can go. The country is opening more and more slopes, this weekend for example the ski areas in the federal state of Upper Austria. Also in Ischgl in Tyrol, people can go up again with the ski lift from this weekend. There was a major corona outbreak in that area at the start of the pandemic. A mouth cap obligation applies everywhere.

France

In the French ski areas, the corona pass is mandatory and a 3G policy applies on the slopes. This means that your corona pass is valid if you have been vaccinated, have recovered from corona or have a negative test result.

The rules will soon be tightened up: from December 15, the corona pass for people over 65 will only be valid if they have had a third shot. This rule applies to everyone from 15 January. Without a third shot, your corona pass is therefore invalid for more than seven months after your last vaccination. The only option is to have you tested every 24 hours.

In ski areas, the corona pass is checked at various places, for example at the ski lift or before the start of a lesson. There is also a mouth cap obligation for everyone aged 11 and older. A mouth cap should not only be worn in indoor areas, but also when you are standing in line.
