Update live ticker here

9:50: Timi Zajc from Slovenia and Kamil Stoch from Poland cannot keep up. Hörl stays ahead. Ten out of 30 jumpers are down.

9:48: The leadership is something away. Jan Hörl from Austria shows a sensational jump to 141 meters. That will wash him far forward.

9:47: Taku Takeuchi from Japan is clearly at the top with 123 meters.

9:46: We will soon see Constantin Schmid and Pius Paschke.

9:44: Markus Eisenbichler cannot cope with his second jump. Only 107 meters, that won’t be a good placement.

9:42: We still do not see the expanse from the first round here. But the best are still to come.

9:40: 30 jumpers are then at the top. Among them five Germans. We see Markus Eisenbichler as the fifth jumper.

2nd round: At 9:40 a.m. we continue in Sapporo.

After the 1st round: So, a short break, then it continues here in Sapporo.

After the 1st round: So, the first round is over. Local hero Ryoyu Kobayashi leads with almost six points ahead of Stefan Kraft and ten points ahead of Dawid Kubacki. Karl Geiger is fourth, 11.4 points behind the Japanese. But just behind Kubacki, the podium is within reach. Second best German is Stephan Leyhe in seventh place, also Constantin Schmid, Pius Paschke and Markus Eisenbichler are in the second round. Richard Freitag didn’t make it.

9:21: No, Karl Geiger can’t keep up. That’s 132 meters, Geiger falls back compared to Kobayashi and Kraft. He is fourth, over ten points behind Kobyashi.

9:20: But Stefan Kraft from Austria doesn’t give up here either. That is 138 meters, he is second and almost six points behind Kobayashi. Now comes Karl Geiger.

9:19: What a jump from Ryoyu Kobayashi. The Japanese goes to 141.5 meters, that is clearly the lead. Ten points ahead of Kubacki.

9:18: Dawid Kubacki delivers and delivers and delivers. The Pole jumps to 136 meters and takes the lead in front of his compatriot Zyla.

9:17: Marius Lindvik jumps 131.5 meters. The young Norwegian is seventh. Now the four contenders are coming to the yellow jersey.

9:16: Now the winner comes from Zakopane. Kamil Stoch lands at 130 meters, although he had good conditions. That was a mistake when jumping. Only 16th place for Stoch.

9:15: Johann Andre Forfang missed the 2nd round. His compatriot Daniel Andre Tande does better and is seventh.

9:13: Nine jumpers are still up. The absolute top jumpers are coming soon.

9:12: What is Stephan Leyhe doing? The conditions are good, Leyhe pulls the jump to 130.5 meters. This is the third place for Leyhe.

9:10: Piotr Zyla from Poland has less wind, jumps 132.5 meters and takes the lead. He got ten points less than Sato because of the wind.

9:08: Many fans are not here, but now there is jubilation. Yukiya Sato from Japan sets the best distance to date with 137.5 meters and takes the lead in front of Koudelka.

9:06: The next German is up. Constantin Schmid jumps 127 meters and is eighth. He is not entirely satisfied with it.

9:05: Robert Johansson from Norway goes 135 meters and is second. Now the competition is picking up speed.

9:04: Domen Prevc moves to second place with 130 meters. Koudelka is ahead.

9:03: Gregor Schlierenzauer has a hard time with that. 114.5 meters for the former series winner. It will probably be nothing with the second round.

9:02: And it goes on. The wind is very changeable. The updraft is constant, but sometimes it’s too much, sometimes too little.

9:01: There is now too much upwind on the slope. The jumping is interrupted for a moment.

8:59: Pius Paschke from Kiefersfelden has good conditions and jumps to 129 meters. That is enough for the second round, Paschke is fourth. 30 out of 50 jumpers are down. Koudelka leads ahead of Hayböck, Cene Prevc and Paschke.

8:57: Roman Koudelka from the Czech Republic goes one better. Although he jumps half a meter shorter than Hayböck, he takes the lead due to poor wind conditions.

8:56: In contrast to Michael Hayböck! The lead is 131.5 meters for the Austrian.

8:55: Markus Eisenbichler lands at 119 meters. The conditions are actually passable straight. Eisenbichler is fifth, he is in the second round. But he won’t compete for the top spots.

8:53: Junshiro Kobayashi, older brother of co-favorite Ryoyu, is unlucky with the wind and lands at 101.5 meters. It will probably be nothing with the second round.

8:51: Now the lead of the young Tyrolean is gone, Cene Prevc from Slovenia jumps 130.5 meters and takes the lead.

8:50: 20 jumpers are down, Marco Wörgötter is in front and has thus qualified for the second round.

8:49: This is a big setback for Friday, which is already in trouble. In this constitution, further World Cup appearances make no sense.

8:48: Richard Freitag experiences a debacle. He already lands at 93 meters, the German is completely off the roll. Only 17th place out of 19 jumpers.

8:46: Marco Wörgötter from Tyrol remains at the top. The 17-year-old will probably reach the second round.

8:44: So, Richard Freitag is coming. Its goal today will be to qualify for the 2nd round.

8:42: As is so often the case in Sapporo, there is an upswing. The first starters do not yet benefit from this.

8:40: 13 jumpers are below, the young Wörgötter is further ahead. Now the level should slowly increase.

8:38: Marco Wörgötter from Austria is a great talent, recently won two gold medals at the Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne and gets his first World Cup appearance here. He takes the chance and takes the lead with 128.5 meters.

8:36: With the exception of the Austrian Philipp Aschenwald, all top jumpers are in Sapporo today. That shows how exciting the fight for the overall ranking is. In the past few years, when the overall ranking was less narrow, many top athletes have saved their way to Japan.

8:35: The first German we see today is Richard Freitag. With the start number 19, Friday is in the competition and wants to gain confidence after bad results over the course of the season today.

8:34: It is still not far here, the first jumpers aim to qualify for the second round. 30 jumpers make it into the final round.

8:32: Flying qualities are required here in Sapporo. There is often upwind on the large hill in Sapporo. If you hit the jump and start flying, you’re good at it.

8:30: So it can start. The first jumpers leave the hill.

Before jumping: The focus today is the fight for the overall ranking. Karl Geiger from Germany leads with 931 points, Stefan Kraft has 883, local hero Ryoyu Kobayashi 831 and Dawid Kubacki 824. The battle for the yellow jersey will be decided between these four jumpers this season.

Before jumping: Today, for the first time, it’s all about ski jumping outside of Europe. In Sapporo jumping from the large hill is coming up. Six German eagles are there when 50 jumpers leave the jump in the first round.

Before jumping: Today is the first of two individual competitions in Japan. It starts here at 8:30 a.m.
