After podium finishes in all four previous races so far, Janine Flock can hope for another successful home World Cup. Last year the Tyrolean celebrated her only win of the season in Innsbruck-Igls. But all of this is not yet a guarantee of success, Flock emphasized before her race on Friday (2 p.m. and 3.35 p.m., both live in ORF Sport +).

“It is good to know that I can drive fast here. However, the train is constantly changing, every year it has to be driven differently. This year the train is a challenge, there are some key passages. But that is exactly what makes our sport so casual – always finding the fastest line, ”explained Flock, who shook off an illness from the previous week and has a lot of confidence.
“The anticipation is very high, Innsbruck-Igls is always a special race. The stress factor is great, at home you just want to do it perfectly. It is easy for family and friends to come to the train to cheer me on. The goal is to get the best out of my performance. ”
Additional motivation through overall World Cup
An additional motivation is that she is only seven points short of the leading German Jacqueline Lölling in the overall World Cup at the halfway point of the season. “But I focus on what I can do: drive fast and deliver my best performance. What then looks out in the overall World Cup is a pleasant side effect, ”said the European champion.
Injuries slow down bobsledders
In contrast, the goals of the Austrians in the bob camp are set much lower due to injuries to the pilots. Benjamin Maier had an excellent start to the season with third place in the four in Lake Pacid, but before the turn of the year the Tyrolean suffered a muscle fiber injury in the thigh and had to watch in Winterberg and La Plagne. In the meantime the injury has recovered, but Maier wants to hold back in the two on Saturday, in the four on Sunday he wants to go full throttle.
Markus Treichl has not yet fully recovered from his metatarsal fracture, so he will only be able to start at the home World Cup while sitting. Katrin Beierl is fully resilient after overcoming knee problems and wants to be in sixth place in Igls as last year.
