Szeged (Hungary), Sept. 26, LETA. Latvian kayaker Roberts Akmens won the sixth place in the A final in the 200-meter distance of the World Cup in the Hungarian city of Szeged on Saturday.
In the stone semi-final, the distance was completed in 36.60 seconds, which was the third best result in the rowing and gave a place in the A final.
In the final, Akmens spent 35.49 seconds in the distance and won the sixth place. To the winner Andrea Domeniko di Liberto from Italy, the Latvian lost 0.69 seconds.
Kristaps Laube also entered the semi-finals after the preliminaries on Friday, finishing 200 meters in 37.39 seconds and remaining seventh in his rowing, thus not entering the B final.
Meanwhile, in the 500-meter distance, Aldis Artūrs Vilde spent one minute and 47.04 seconds in the B final distance, ranking in the seventh position, which means 17th place in the overall rating.
Laube also started in the same discipline, but he remained 24th among 27 athletes.
In the 1000 meters, Vilde B took the final, ninth place in the final, finishing with a time of four minutes 11.44 seconds. The rower took the 18th position in the overall rating.
Among the ladies, Madara Aldiņa was fourth in the 200-meter semi-final with a time of 44.96 seconds and earned the opportunity to participate in the B final, where the fight is taking place for the tenth place. In the final B, the rower spent 43.82 seconds, ranking eighth among nine athletes. Aldiņa took the 17th place in the overall rating.
On Saturday, Aldiņa also participated in the 500-meter semi-final, where the distance was covered in one minute and 57.79 seconds. This gave him the seventh position in rowing, but not a place in the B final. In the overall rating, Aldiņa achieved the 22nd best result.
Among canoe rowers, Roberts Lagzdiņš showed the fourth fastest time in the B final in the 1000 meters distance on Saturday with four minutes and 8.86 seconds, thus taking the 13th place in the overall rating.
Lagzdins also held a 500-meter rowing preliminaries on Saturday, finishing in one minute and 57.02 seconds. The athlete was seventh in his rowing, but it did not prevent him from reaching the semi-finals scheduled for Sunday.
In the women’s 200-meter distance, Jūlija Gutova was the slowest in the semifinals on Saturday with 58.47 seconds – the ninth – due to which she did not reach the final rowing. In the distance of 500 meters, he reached the finish in the B final with a time of two minutes 37.28 seconds, ranking in the sixth position, but in the overall rating he won the 15th place.
Canoe duo Nils Mednis / Jurijs Ševcovs, on Saturday, showed the eighth fastest time among nine crews in the 500-meter semi-final on Saturday, but that was not enough to reach the final.
In the evening race, the mixed doubles Gutova / Shevtsov had a chance to enter the finals after an unconvincing start in the preliminary race, but the duo took the last, fifth place in the semi-finals.
Due to the growth of the family, the skater Alexei Rumyantsev, who is currently in Russia, is not starting in Szeged.
