Skate America is the first event in the 2022-23 Grand Prix Series and was held October 21-23, 2022 in Norwood, Massachusetts at the Boston Skating Club. The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series comprises six senior international events and culminates with the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals in December in Turin, Italy.
Unsurprisingly, the Americans have captured most of the podiums … As often at home. Skaters are often privileged when skating in their country as well it is common, not to say usual, that the ratings are a little inflated to favor the locals. While this is particularly noticeable with Americans, most countries practice this method.
Women
In the absence of the Russians, Kaori Sakamoto continues her ascent. She wins the competition with energy. She is in front of the Americans Isabeau Levito and Amber Glenn. Polish Ekatarina Kurakova was not at the highest level of her and finished 5th.
Men
The American Ilia Malinin has won the title of this Grand Prix with a new successful quad axel! Japanese Kao Miura and Korean Junhwan Cha finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Canadians Roman Sadovsky and Wesley Chiu took 5th and 6th place.
Couples
American duo Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier won the competition. The podium was completed by Canadians Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps, Kelly Ann Laurin and Loucas Ethier.
ice dance
Madison Chock and Evan Bates won their third Skate America title by continuing their dominance in ice dancing. Together with them, Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker won silver and their fourth Grand Prix medal. Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac, the Canadian duo, complete the podium.
