Skånska Dagbladet | The NHL is extending the Christmas break

Neither bonuses nor deposit limits have previously had a maximum ceiling, according to the bonus page casinopro.se – something that has changed as a result of the temporary change implemented in the Gaming Act from 2 July 2020.

Strict rules in the new amendment

The temporary change in the Gaming Act would primarily apply until the last day of December 2020. Now, however, it is clear that The Swedish state extends the maximum limit for casino bonuses.

In the first instance, they have chosen to extend the temporary gaming law for another six months – but there is nothing to say that they will not be able to extend the time limit further.

The new rules that apply in the temporary gaming law are very strict and aim to ensure that no player risks ending up in a gambling addiction. The reason for this is that with the pandemic, many Swedes became unemployed or saw their income fall drastically.

There was then a concern among the government that this would lead to increased gambling – which is why they felt that a temporary change in the gambling law was necessary.

The most talked about changes in the gaming law are precisely about bonuses and deposit limits. As we have already mentioned, the “ordinary” Swedish gaming law means that each gaming company may only distribute one bonus per player and license. There is no maximum ceiling for the bonus – but with the change in the Gaming Act, a bonus ceiling of SEK 100 has been introduced.

This means that no bonuses with a value of more than SEK 100 may be awarded – something that puts the Swedish gaming companies in a vulnerable position regarding competition from foreign players who have no such restrictions.

The deposit limits have also seen a change, and today a mandatory deposit limit of SEK 5,000 per player applies.

The terms of the bonuses are reshaped

That the bonuses have been given a maximum ceiling of SEK 100 has been both good and bad for us players. This is of course sad news for the players who are looking for as high bonuses as possible – at the same time, the bonus terms at many casinos have become more generous towards the players.

For example, many casinos have chosen to remove the wagering requirement from their bonuses – which means that you can keep your winnings immediately.

Turnover-free bonuses are very popular, and before the temporary change in the gaming law, these were very rare.

Today we find bonuses without wagering requirements at every other casino – which of course we think is fun!

Which casino bonuses are best nowadays?

Just as we have mentioned, many casinos have been forced to reshape their bonuses – and several of these have then chosen to turn the bonuses into ones that are more beneficial to the players. We mean, of course, the turnover-free bonuses – these are the best you as a player can find.

The only bonuses that fall into the same category are deposit-free bonuses, but these often come with wagering requirements.

If we get to choose, we take a bonus without wagering requirements, every day of the week.

Some of the casinos that today have chosen to add their welcome bonuses as bonuses without wagering requirements include Prank Casino, Klirr and High Roller.

Are the lower bonuses here to stay?

Many players wonder if we will ever return to “normal mode” regarding casino bonuses – and this is a clearly justified question. As the current economic situation will in all probability be long-term, there is a possibility that the Swedish state will choose to revise the Gaming Act so that the temporary changes will instead be permanent.

However, this is not something that will happen in a hurry – in the first place, further extensions will probably be relevant instead. This is because a further restriction in the Swedish gaming law would have major effects, both for the gaming companies as well as for the national economy.

This means that many people would be affected by a change in the Gaming Act, which is why a lasting change should first be analyzed carefully before it is implemented. On the other hand, Ardalan Shekarabi has proven to be very upbeat over the past year – so nothing is impossible.

What consequences can a permanent change in the gaming law have?

We have already mentioned that there are several positive aspects of the temporary change in the gaming law – for example, many casinos have chosen to remove their wagering requirements, which has been much appreciated by the players.

However, there are also negative sides with a stricter gaming law. First and foremost, there will be very distorted competition for Swedish casinos vis-à-vis foreign players. This is because the latter do not have to relate to the Swedish gaming team at all – and thus can set whatever conditions they want for their players.

A further consequence of this is that the Swedish players who choose to play at a foreign casino receive a severely eroded player protection.

This is because the Swedish gaming law always has the players’ best interests as a basis, at the same time as Swedish players can always get help through KO if they do not agree with a Swedish casino. A foreign casino does not have to deal with this at all, and it is thus up to their good will whether they want to agree with the player or not in a conflict.

Nor should it be underestimated that a large player transfer to foreign casinos will result in a large loss in the Treasury, as there are several billions in tax money coming in from the Swedish-licensed casinos that exist today.
