SK Sturm Graz announces the return of goalkeeper talent Matteo Bignetti

After the contract of goalkeeper Jörg Siebenhandl was not extended – the 33-year-old Viennese was 6 years with SK Sturm Graz – the runner-up from Styria reports the commitment of a goalkeeper talent and returnee: Matthew Bignetti. The 19-year-old comes from the second team of the German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, where he played in the Hessenliga and the UEFA Youth League last season. For the native of Styria it is a return to Graz, as the ÖFB U19 team goalkeeper was trained in the SK Sturm youth team before moving to Frankfurt in 2020.

Return of the “prodigal son” to Graz

Matteo Bignetti is Austria’s current U19 team player and has signed in Graz until 2026. The 1.90 meter tall goalie was born in Bruck an der Mur on May 6, 2004 and has Italian roots.

His youth clubs: Grazer AK (03/2013-2016), SK Sturm Graz (2016-2020), Eintracht Frankfurt (2020-2023)

SK Sturm Managing Director Sport Andrew Schicker: “Matteo Bignetti is a top Austrian talent in the position of goalkeeper and current youth team player. Even after he moved to Germany from the Sturm youth team, we never lost sight of Matteo and closely followed his development.

Matteo will be an excellent addition to our goalkeeping team and will have the opportunity to take the next step in his development under goalkeeper coach Stefan Loch at SK Sturm. We are absolutely convinced of Matteo’s potential and look forward to the years to come with him.”

“SK Sturm is my home club”

Matthew Bignetti: “SK Sturm is my home club and a top club in Austria, I’m extremely happy to be able to play for Schwarz-Weiss again in the future. I’ve been able to gain valuable experience in Frankfurt over the past three years and I’m highly motivated to take the next step in Graz and develop further as a goalkeeper.”
