SK Hynix, which is building a semiconductor production base in Indiana, USA, will receive incentives worth 920 billion won from the state government. SK Hynix announced on the 4th, “We will spend $3.87 billion (about 5.2 trillion won) to build a high-bandwidth memory (HBM) production facility in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA.” In addition, it receives subsidies and tax credits totaling $685.7 million (about 924.3 billion won) from the state of Indiana. It is separate from the subsidies provided by the US federal government based on the ‘Chips Act (Semiconductor Science Act)’. SK Hynix is said to have also applied for Chips Act subsidies. If this subsidy is received, SK Hynix is expected to receive incentives worth trillions.

The subsidy areas that SK Hynix will receive consist of $3 million in incentive-based training subsidies, $3 million in manufacturing preparation subsidies, $45 million in infrastructure improvement subsidies, and up to $80 million in conditional performance payment incentives.
In this way, each state in the United States provides its own subsidies and tax benefits to attract semiconductor companies. Samsung Electronics, which is building a semiconductor foundry (consignment production facility) in Taylor, Texas, will receive a property tax reduction of $4.8 billion (approximately KRW 6.468 trillion). Taiwan’s TSMC received $205 million (about 276.2 billion won) in support from the state of Arizona and was also guaranteed water supply.
