JAKARTA-The General Chairperson of 98 Activists National Consultation Sayed Junaidi Rizaldi reminded that there is a condition that not all requests for Covid-19 vaccines around the world can be fulfilled.
This is because mass production has not yet started and not many Covid-19 vaccines have received permission from health authorities
Therefore, Indonesia must be vigilant.
“Vaccines are now scarce, because the Covid-19 vaccine is a hot topic all over the world,” he said in Jakarta, Wednesday (12/1).
Currently, it is clear that the Covid-19 Vaccine is a struggle around the world. The world’s population is 7.8 billion.
If WHO requires that 70% of the world’s population be vaccinated, there will be 5.5 billion people who must be vaccinated.
“If each person needs 2 doses of vaccine, there will be a need for 11 billion doses of vaccine. Even though the world production of vaccines is only 6.2 million doses, even for the production of existing vaccines such as tuberculosis, polio, etc., “said the graduate of UI.
According to him, the whole world takes 3-3.5 years to complete the vaccination.
And every day in the world the death of nearly 10 thousand per day.
“So you can imagine if you have to wait 3 years how many people will have to die before this vaccine is available,” he said.
Indonesia is currently in competition with major countries to secure vaccine availability. Canada has managed to secure vaccines 4 to 5 times its population, America 3 times, and Britain 2 times its population.
Indonesia alone has only been able to secure 329 million doses; 125 million Sinovac, 50 million Novavak (Amrik), 50 million AstraZeneca (UK), 50 million Pfizer (Amrik), 54 million Covax / Gavi (WHO) from the need for 362 million doses.
“So Indonesia is still in the vortex of a fierce battle for vaccines against developed countries,” he said.
The population of Indonesia is 269 million, of which there are 188 million over the age of 18. If you reduce pregnant women and people with severe comorbidities or have been exposed to Covid, there are about 181 million people who deserve to get vaccines.
“If per person needs 2 doses, Indonesia needs a minimum of 362 million doses,” he added.
Furthermore, he explained that the Covid-19 vaccine is very much needed to prevent deaths caused by Covid 19.
This vaccine is also an option for solving this pandemic.
However, Indonesia is currently dealing with other countries to secure vaccine supplies.
“So let’s not argue about rejecting the vaccine or not,” said Uncle, his familiar greeting while closing the conversation.
