Sjåstad Christiansen won after thriller on the last shooting – VG

WON: Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen won the hunt start in Östersund.

ÖSTERSUND (VG) Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen started 30 seconds behind Sebastian Samuelsson on Sunday’s hunt start, but after a full house on the last shot, the Norwegian took his second World Cup victory.

Published:

– On the last series, I was quite determined to do it in my own way and not let myself be carried away by the pace. I took it my way, spent a little long time on the first shot, breathed and had reasonably good control, Sjåstad Christiansen told NRK after the race.

For in the last shooting he came equal with Samuelsson and Emilien Jacquelin.

And where the other two missed, the Norwegian kept his head cool, hit all the flashes and went out in the lead.

And the gap he got the others could not close, so the Norwegian could cheer for victory. At the back, Samuelsson took second place ahead of Jacquelin in third.

With Sunday’s victory, Sjåstad Christiansen took over the lead in the World Cup overall. He was informed of this after the victory, but:

– I do not think so until I see it in black and white, said Sunday’s winner to NRK after the race and continued:

– It’s completely beyond really. I’ve been reasonably far away from wearing a yellow jersey so far in my career.

The Norwegian leads with three points on Sebastian Samuelsson, according to the International Biathlon Federation’s pages.

Sjåstad Christiansen, who finished fifth in Thursday’s sprint, started flawlessly with two full houses on the horizontal shots. The Norwegian took with him the 30 seconds he had up to the lead, and lived up to the plan from the start:

– If we are to have any chance of taking “Sebbe”, then we must walk as few meters as possible in that penalty round, Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen told NRK before the start of the hunt.

Then there was a boom on the first of the standing shots, before it was all decided on the last shot.

For the other Norwegians, it was a heavy Sunday in the Swedish forests.

Johannes Thingnes Bø became the second best Norwegian in a ninth place, with three penalty rounds.

Sivert Guttorm Bakken was number 21, Johannes Dale was number 23 and Tarjei Bø was number 28.

– You want to take off the stock market, break it in half and burn it up. It’s a little different from me, Tarjei Bø told NRK after the race.
