In conversation with Veronica Swart emphasizes that he does not blame Steijn for the dramatic past six months, in which Ajax was even at the bottom of the Eredivisie for a round. “It was very difficult for him,” said the former top striker. “He only knew two of the twelve players who came. We don’t even know most of them. When I see some names, I think: how do we pronounce that?”
“This is the biggest mistake I have ever experienced,” Swart refers to the summer transfer period. “I’m sick of it, I can’t have it. I’m at Ajax almost every day. I want to save what can be saved.” Swart states that he does not blame Steijn. “No, not at all. Maurice Steijn came across well to me,” he says. “He has done good things at other clubs. At Sparta too.”
