Siza Vieira. Bars, clubs and gyms remain closed in May

The Economy Minister confirmed this Wednesday that the bars, clubs and gyms will remain closed during the month of May, and may reopen in the third phase of the economic deflation, scheduled for the beginning of June.

“Bars, clubs, gyms will continue to be closed during the month of May,” said Pedro Siza Vieira in an interview with SIC-Notícias’s Business of the Week program, justifying the need to maintain social distance.

The Minister of Economy guaranteed that the plan to reopen the economy will be done gradually and in stages every fifteen days. “At the end of a fortnight we can assess whether the gradual uprising led to an uncontrolled increase in the epidemic,” said the minister.

Asked about the future calendar, the minister stated that we have defined a calendar until the beginning of June. It gives companies time to adapt to the new rules and evaluate what can be done in the future ”, said Pedro Siza Vieira, stressing that the Portuguese have to get used to“ living with the virus ”.

Sufficient masks
The Minister of Economy also guaranteed that there will be a supply of masks for the population, ensuring that the State will provide schools with this “large-scale” protection material for students and employees.

“The government is going to ensure the supply of masks in schools. What we need to ensure is that the market is supplied in sufficient quantity ”, stressed the government official, indicating that this is an assumption to reopen the economy.

“We already have many Portuguese companies producing this equipment, certified and will start to reach more large commercial areas”, assured the number two of the Executive.
