The friends of the Ribera del Marco will plant this week sixty elms in two neighborhoods. In two days, March 20 and 21, they will distribute 30 copies between the surroundings of the San Francisco Complex and an esplanade of the Arroyo de Campofrío park in Cáceres el Viejo, respectively. Both actions will start at 11.00 am and are part of the program of activities that the group has launched in collaboration with other associations that defend the environment and administrations such as Cáceres Provincial Council and the city council for the second edition of the Tribute to Elm in the capital of Cáceres .
In the same way that the group did in a first plantation, the people of Cáceres will be able to sponsor a specimen that is planted and carried and the name of one of the boys or girls born this year in the city. The elms were collected a week ago from the nursery managed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition in Madrid and all the specimens are resistant to graphiosis, a disease that affects this species in the city and has killed dozens of specimens. Apart from the plantation, the association organizes an online conference on March 17 that can be followed through the Facebook channel under the title ‘The elms return to our villages’.
