European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announces sixth package sanctions against Russia for the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. It also included a proposal for a phased oil embargo.

She wrote about it in Twitter.

In particular, those responsible for the atrocities committed by the Russian army in Bucha fell under EU restrictions.

“Today we are introducing the sixth package of sanctions. Firstly, we brought high-ranking military and other persons who committed war crimes in Bucha. We know who you are. And you will be held accountable,” the EC President said.

In addition, a number of Russian financial institutions, as well as Russian propagandists, fell under the sanctions.

“Secondly, we are restricting Sberbank – by far the largest bank in Russia – and two other large banks. Thirdly, we are banning access to our air to three large state broadcasters that aggressively spread Putin’s lies and propaganda. Finally, we propose to ban Russian oil. Let’s face it: it won’t be easy. But we have to work on it,” von der Leyen said.

She stressed that the EU wants Ukraine to win over Russia.

“That is why I propose to start work on a massive recovery package for our Ukrainian friends. This package should bring large investments to meet the needs and implement the necessary reforms,” added von der Leyen.

The fifth package of EU sanctions against Rosii, entered into force on 8 April. It included a ban on the purchase of Russian coal from August 2022 and a ban on Russian ships from entering EU ports.

Transportation to Belarus and the Russian Federation is also prohibited, but there are exceptions for certain goods.
