Tennessee beat South Carolina Upstate at home on a new NCAA round. Santiago Vescovi’s team achieved its sixth victory of the season.
In the last game before games start against their conference teams, the University of Tennessee faced their South Carolina Upstate counterpart. The former came from crushing Saint Joseph’s at home, while the latter, in their most recent presentation, had fallen to North Carolina-Greensboro. Those led by Rick Barnes took to the field with Santiago Vescovi, Victor Bailey Jr, Josiah-Jordan James, Yves Pons and John Fulkerson. For their part, those led by Dave Dickerson began with Dalvin White, Tommy Bruner, Bryson Mozone, Josh Aldrich and Nevin Zink.
The match held at the Thompson-Boling Arena had a fairly balanced start, in which there were no major differences. The home team hurt through their 1-2 made up of Santiago Vescovi and Victor Bailey Jr, the first assisting and the second scoring. Meanwhile, the visiting cast featured an inspired Tommy Bruner, who hurt with his medium and long-range shots. As the minutes went by, the Volunteers were adjusting the defense and with a good contribution from the bench by Jaden Springer and Keon Johnson, they managed to take control of the actions. At the end of the first half, two consecutive 3-pointers by Bryson Mozone caused the Spartans to narrow the gap heading into the long break. The first 20 minutes of play went with the homeowner in front in figures of 33 to 26.
In the first bars of the second half, it was possible to observe an extremely closed procedure, in which the defenses clearly outweighed the attacks. At that moment, the figure of Vescovi appeared again, who with a couple of assists and a triple, gave his team the possibility of getting an income of 15 points (47-32). However, the visit managed to react immediately, having as their flag bearer Bruner. Averaging the period, led by a fiery Olivier Nkamhoua, those led by Rick Barnes opened a difference of 16 points, which would be lapidary for the aspirations of South Carolina Upstate. Ultimately, Tennessee was left with the victory 80-60 and thus remains undefeated in the 2020/21 NCAA season.
The winner was the performance of Victor Bailey Jr, who scored 18 points, well accompanied by Josiah-Jordan James with 11 points and 6 rebounds. On the loser side, Tommy Bruner finished as a scorer with 18 points.
Uruguayan guard Santiago Vescovi spent 27 minutes on the court, in which he scored 9 points (3/6 triples) and distributed 8 assists, for a total valuation of 12.
The next game for our compatriot’s team will be in a week’s time, when in their first match against teams from their conference, they will have to face Missouri as a visitor.
